Dead Easy ( and cheap ) Pick Bag

Make a Pick Bag on a Shoestring Budget

OK. It really isn't a Pick Bag. It really is a Shoestring. So it really is on a shoestring budget.

I don't see any reason to enclose the picks inside of a bag. I just need to secure them to the banjo. So I went to the drug store and got some shoestrings:

Shoestrings

Shoe Strings

They cost me $2.37 ( in 2012 dollars ). There was no tax because they are "clothing".

=:O

So that is extra savings.

I also ordered some new metal finger picks. The thumb picks are Dunlop Nickel Silver .025's, and the finger picks are Dunlop Nickel Silver .018's. The reason for getting the metal thumb picks was for the holes:

The Picks

I like the metal picks anyway, but the holes make this trick really simple. The picks cost $0.75 each, so that adds a buck fifty to the tab. But that doesn't really count toward the pick bag because I would need to have the picks anyway, whether I make a pick bag or not. So we're still cheap.

I passed one end of the shoestring under a couple of the bracket hooks.

String Under Hooks

To use up some of the extra length of the shoestring I passed another loop under the hooks.

Then, I tied it using a double overhand knot.

Knot the String

Thread the picks onto the shoestring.

Add the Thumb Pick

See how easy this is when you have holes in the thumb pick?

Tie the shoestring into a bow, and:

There you go. Those suckers are not going anywhere until I want them to. Here they are on top of the banjo hoop:

Ready to Grab Picks

Getting them off is easy too. Just pull out the bow, and pull on the picks and off they come. Dead Easy. And cheap too.
