I create my art using Pen & Ink, Acrylics, Oils, Watercolors. I have been painting and drawing since I was a young child. I started out with paint-by-numbers, and I remember wondering how they figured out where to put the lines and numbers so that a picture emerged as the spaces were filled in. Soon, I was intrigued by creating my own paintings, and I stuck with it. When I was a teenager, I studied under an Oklahoma artist named Richard Goetz. He taught me the basics of painting still life and portraits in pastels and oil. Some of his style is evident in my own work, such as his impressionistic colors and pointillism. I do not try to duplicate a scene that I see in nature. Instead I try to create a new, artistic image from an inspirational source. Bringing the image all together into a unified whole, with a touch of abstract at the edges drives my style. I am primarily a studio artist, but I go out often to find material in nature. We vacation in Maine, where it is easy to find ideas for art. More often than not, I end up taking a nap on a hot rock, just to let the inspiration sink in.
